This is an estimate for planning only, not tax advice. It covers federal income tax on W-2 wages, Schedule C business profit and short- and long-term capital gains with the standard deduction, plus self-employment tax and the 3.8% net investment income tax. It doesn't include dividends, interest or other income, capital loss carryovers from earlier years, the 25%/28% rates for real estate depreciation or collectibles, retirement or health insurance deductions for the self-employed, itemized deductions, education or childcare credits, state or local tax, or the new deductions for tips and overtime. Children count for the child tax credit if under 17, and as dependents if 17–18 or a full-time student under 24.
